An existence denied

Eyes unseeing, ears unhearing,
Tongues unspeaking,
A cracked existence
In a shattered mirror,
Lives fragile, termite-ridden,
Crumbling to dust,
Each day a little less bright,
Each night darker than before.
Unreasoning reason, calculated emotions,
Uncultured cultures, irreligious religions,
The world an ugly monalisa smile.
A life almost dead,
Each breath a requiem,
Each heartbeat a roll of drums,
Announcing an imminent
Cessation of being,
Lest we forget to count ourselves
While counting our dead.
Ask not for whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for me, for you, for all of us.
